La Suissitude : What does it mean to be Swiss in 2025?

Ten years ago, I moved to Switzerland, embarking on a new adventure in a country that would soon feel like home. While French was already my native language, integrating into Suisse romande still came with its own challenges—understanding the culture, adapting to the local way of life, and truly becoming part of the community. This experience inspired me to create Prêt à Parler (PàP), which is now celebrating 10 years of helping others integrate through language and cultural learning.

Now, as I reach my own 10-year milestone with PàP, I also find myself at an exciting personal crossroads: I am eligible to apply for Swiss naturalization. This moment is not just about a passport or paperwork—it’s a reflection on the journey of integration, one that so many of our students are on as well.

Integration: More Than Just Paperwork

Becoming Swiss is about more than just fulfilling administrative requirements—it’s about truly feeling at home in your adopted country. Integration means confidently interacting with your neighbors, understanding the local culture, and actively participating in Swiss life. This has been my own experience over the past decade, and it’s exactly what we strive to help our students achieve at Prêt à Parler.

That’s why I’m excited to announce our new series: "La Suissitude." Starting on Wednesday, February 26, and continuing on the fourth Wednesday of every month, we will share inspiring stories from those who have successfully navigated the path to Swiss citizenship. We will also invite local Swiss people to share their thought on what it means for them to be Swiss in 2025? Tune in on all our social media channels to hear firsthand what integration really looks like.
