Disclaimer: Prêt à Parler CH does not carry out fide tests and is not yet accredited for any of the fide procedures. However, our team of Super Profs has been helping our clients to successfully pass their fide test in Suisse romande since January 2019. Our online preparation program for the fide test, blog articles, social media posts and videos are meant to help fide applicants better understand and prepare for their exam.
What You Can Expect From Learning With Us
Mastering a language is a rewarding, yet challenging journey, especially as an adult learner who also juggles with professional and family commitments. Our experience of the last 10 years has shown that long-term learning is much more conducive to lifelong knowledge retention. With our efficient methodology, regular study frequency and personalised lessons based on your own learning background, it can take from 1.5 to 3 years to get you from an absolute beginner (A0 level) to an intermediate, autonomous speaker (B1 level).
Intermediate French skills not only qualify you for essential language tests needed for work and naturalisation, but also provide a strong foundation for daily life and cultural integration in Romandie.
Objectif A1
A1 level proficiency in French refers to the most basic level of language learning, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). At this level, learners are considered beginners and can:
- Understand and use simple phrases and everyday expressions needed for basic communication.
- Introduce themselves and ask/respond to questions about personal details, such as where they live, people they know, and things they have.
- Interact in a simple way, provided the other person speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to help.
A1 is enough to handle simple, everyday situations but not sufficient for complex communication or professional environments. It is also the minimum level required to be able to apply for Permis B, if you are living in Swiss Romande. This level is typically reached after about 60-100 hours according to the CEFR.
The Prêt à Parler Method : Getting from A0 to A1
With our decade-long experience we have developed a method that can get you from level A0 to A1 in half the recommended CEFR time, or 30 hours of private online lessons with one of our Super Profs.
This is how our A0 to A1 program is organized:
LESSON LENGTH: 60 minutes
TOTAL LEARNING TIME: 30 hours
DURATION: one 6-month semester
FREQUENCY: 5 lessons/month, 1-2 lesson/week
FAST-TRACK: For learners who want to get to their desired level in a shorter period of time, we offer an intensive 3-month version of this program, with 10 lessons/month.
Our promise
- Reach a minimum of A1 by the end of the semester;
- At the end of the program, upon success at the final exam and approval from your Super Prof you'll receive a "PàP Certificate A1";
- You'll be ready to apply for Permis B.

Note: Prêt à Parler’s learning path draws on over 10 years of experience teaching French to non-francophone expatriates in Suisse Romande, aligning with the typical time needed to reach language goals. Each learner progresses at their own pace, so while some may advance quickly, others may take a bit more time. Whatever your needs, we’re here to adapt and offer the ideal solution to help you succeed!
If you are not really at level A1 at the end of the 30 hours, there's a possibility of doing 10 more hours of private lesson, i.e. 2 extra months of learning.

Slowly but Surely
At Prêt à Parler, our experience has shown that 6-month semesters with one lesson per week is ideal for most learners. This intensity provides ample time to complete assignments, practice consistently, and absorb new material without feeling rushed.
It’s the perfect pace for full-time parents and working professionals who don’t have much time to dedicate to learning. With this approach, you won’t feel overwhelmed, yet you’ll continue to make steady progress in your French learning journey.
Fast-Track/Intensive
However, if you are looking to accelerate your learning, we also offer 3-month semesters where you'll cover the same material but with a more intensive schedule, attending 2 to 3 lessons per week. This faster pace is designed for learners who have more time to dedicate and want to advance more quickly.

- Private lessons: *Up to 30 lessons per 6 months for the "Slowly, but Surely" program, or per 3 months for the "Fast-Track/Intensive" program, to be scheduled at your own convenience via our online reservation system or with the help of our team. You can start booking your private lessons following your online purchase.
- Lesson Completion: Depending on your program, you can schedule either 5 or 10 lessons per month. The lessons reset at the start of each month, and any unused lessons will expire and not carry over. A lesson can only be rescheduled within our rescheduling policy of 24 hours. In case of serious illnesses which prevents the completion of the lessons within the contract validity, an email with clear explanations and a doctor's note are mandatory in order to pause the contract and must be sent to info@pretaparler.ch.
- 24 hours cancellation/rescheduling policy: Cancellation and rescheduling of your online lessons must be done at least 24 hours before the scheduled time. Each lesson can only be rescheduled once.
- Contract start date: The start date of your contract corresponds to the date of your first lesson booked and the validity is for 3 or 6 months later, according to the chosen program. Contract extension is not possible.
