You're applying through Express Entry and know a strong TCF Canada score boosts your CRS points — but you're not sure how to prepare efficiently.
You've tried apps or generic online courses, but haven't made the progress you need. You want personalized guidance, not a one-size-fits-all program.
You speak some French — maybe from living in Switzerland or Germany — but you've never sat a formal exam and don't know how to translate that into a strong score.
Your exam date is approaching and you need a structured, focused plan — not scattered study sessions with no clear direction.
You're not sure which NCLC level you're at, or how far you are from your target score. You need an honest assessment before you can plan.
You understand what's at stake — your immigration timeline, your CRS ranking, your family's future. You want to get it right the first time.
Canada actively encourages French-speaking immigrants outside Québec. If you apply through Express Entry, strong French skills can give you up to 50 extra CRS points — even if English is your main language. This can make a real difference in receiving an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence.
The TCF Canada measures your French across four skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Each skill is scored on the NCLC scale (1–12), and your results are valid for two years. The higher your score, the more points you earn — and the closer you get to your new life in Canada.
This isn't just a language exam. It's one of the most concrete steps you can take to strengthen your immigration application.
The NCLC (Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens) is Canada's official language proficiency scale for immigration, running from 1 to 12. Your TCF Canada result in each of the four skills is converted to an NCLC level, and those levels directly determine how many CRS points you earn in your Express Entry profile.
The section below walks through each NCLC tier — what your French looks like at that level, what it earns you in CRS points, and what it takes to get there. Find where you are today, and see where you want to be.
At Prêt à Parler, we don't believe in one-size-fits-all programs. We build your lessons around your current level, your target NCLC scores, and your exam date — so every lesson moves you forward.

3 tasks (60 min)
Three tasks — description, argumentation, opinion. We develop your structure, vocabulary range, and grammatical accuracy, and teach you how to make the most of the time available.
Our experience has shown that 6-month semesters with one lesson per week work best for most learners. You'll have enough time to complete assignments, practice regularly, and absorb new material without feeling overwhelmed — while making consistent, measurable progress toward your target NCLC score. This pace works especially well for working professionals balancing exam preparation with a full-time job and family life.
If your exam date is approaching or you want to make rapid progress, our intensive program covers the same material in half the time — 2 to 3 lessons per week. Designed for learners who can dedicate more time and want results quickly.

Pret a Parler is fantastic! I've tried other private online teachers through other sources, and no one beats my Super Prof. The lessons are geared to my level, so I quickly began speaking French throughout the full hour with ease and comfort, and feel so much more confident in my daily life in Geneva. It is absolutely worth the price and time to learn French well and quickly. I cannot recommend it enough!

Excellent service and support from the whole team. I've been working on my French with a super prof and it has been a great experience. A great company focused on its customers.

Literally, it was these lessons with Prêt à Parler -all systematically planned and flawlessly executed- that made my son activate the latent French in his repertoire and overcome his mental block over French. All these lessons were meticulously spiraled to increase the depth of his understanding, vocabulary, and his confidence in his abilities as a French speaker- all done in a relaxed and friendly manner.

More than 600 French learners like you made the choice to trust our high quality services since 2015.
After a disappointing experience with another language school that treated adult learners more like schoolchildren, I was so relieved to find Prêt à Parler. From the very beginning, the team was supportive, encouraging, and professional. They created a positive learning environment where I felt respected, motivated, and confident.
My teacher, Aurore, was fantastic—patient, friendly, and always focused on helping me build real-world communication skills. Rather than just drilling grammar, she helped me develop the confidence and practical ability I needed to succeed. Thanks to her guidance, I passed my A1 French exam and finally feel like I’m on solid footing with the language.
If you're an adult learner looking for a school that truly understands your needs and helps you achieve real progress, I can't recommend Prêt à Parler enough!

I really enjoyed my private lessons. My Super Prof is a miracle worker, very professional and patient and he made learning French fun. Thanks to him I just passed my FIDE exam and exceeded my own expectations plus I have gained so much more confidence in speaking French. The whole PaP team are very enthusiastic and lovely to work with. Highly recommended!

I am really enjoying my private lessons. My Super Prof is very fast yet effective which I really like. She helps a lot with pronunciation and makes French learning more approachable for a beginner like me.

I have tried other methods, but Prêt à Parler is the best! The programme and the material are engaging and the Super Profs are magnificent! Brice is absolutely brilliant! He has earned the title of being called a 'Super Prof'. He is knowledgeable, kind, charming, and patient and clearly, the student's stupidity does not phase him. He remains encouraging and supportive! I highly recommend improving your French online with Prêt à Parler. I passed A2 for Oral and B1 for Reading and Writing with the Fide Express Programme!

This is a very affordable, convenient, and effective way to learn French online. My professor customizes my learning materials and the way she teaches depending on my level and progress. Most of all, I have gained my confidence in speaking without necessarily going out of my house.
Yoshiyuki Oshima - Technical Officer / UN Plus Coordinator at UNAIDS
I would highly recommend Prêt à Parler to anyone who either wants to improve their French level or want to take an official test. I used to listen to different Webinars in the evenings after work, while making dinners and did exercises online whenever I could. I also took some private lessons and my super prof is very organised, patient, funny, and gave me a lot of tips to use in the DELF B1 exam.
Maria Poacher - PàP Client since June 2021
My wife follows Prêt à Parler on Facebook and she thought that you guys looked really good and thought you might be a good fit for me. Starting with a couple of times per week to try to ease me into learning, my Super Prof gauged the situation very well and accommodated my learning ability to the speed and content of each session. This is super important for me. My Super Prof was given a mammoth task of trying to ready me for FIDE, to gain level A2 in 2 months, with a serious operation right in the middle of it all. Nothing short of a herculean task. However, with his excellent skills, encouragement, and endless positivity he is solely responsible for my getting A2.

Great platform offering a variety of different options to learn French as an English-speaking expat: from free (!) online content (podcasts, newsletter, games, etc) to tailored class packages (interactive platform, pre-recorded classes for Every Day Life French or private lessons). Topped up with great staff and customer service. I can definitely recommend reaching out to them if you are looking to improve your French

The TCF Canada is a version of the TCF specifically designed for Canadian immigration. While the standard TCF is used for general certification or university admissions, the TCF Canada is recognized by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and results are reported on the NCLC scale. The exam format is very similar, but the TCF Canada is the version you need for your immigration application.
The NCLC (Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens) is Canada's official language proficiency framework for immigration. It runs from 1 to 12, with higher numbers indicating greater fluency. Your TCF Canada score in each of the four skills is converted to an NCLC level, and those levels are what IRCC uses to calculate your CRS points.
French-language ability earns you additional CRS points depending on your NCLC scores. The maximum bonus of up to 50 points is available to candidates who reach NCLC 7 or above in all four skills. Reaching NCLC 9 or above places you in the highest scoring tier. Even moderate scores at NCLC 5–6 earn meaningful extra points — but if you're investing in preparation, aiming for NCLC 7 or above gives you the strongest return.
Results are valid for 2 years from the exam date. Make sure your results will still be valid when your application is processed — and if you're still early in the immigration process, it may be worth timing your exam carefully.
This depends on your current French level. As a rough guide: if you're at B1 (roughly NCLC 6–7), a focused 30-lesson program may be enough to reach NCLC 9. If you're at A2 or below, a 60-lesson program will give you the foundation you need. Book a free assessment and we'll give you a personalized estimate.
Absolutely — this is very common. Many of our clients have conversational French from living in Switzerland or Germany but have never sat a formal language exam. Exam technique matters greatly in the TCF Canada, particularly for speaking and writing. Your Super Prof will help you understand the format, manage your time, and present your French in the way the exam rewards.
The TCF Canada has four components: listening (multiple choice, ~60 questions), reading (multiple choice, ~60 questions), speaking (4 recorded tasks), and writing (3 written tasks). The multiple-choice sections are done on a computer; speaking responses are recorded digitally rather than in front of a live examiner.
The TCF Canada is offered at authorized test centers around the world, including several in Switzerland and Germany. Exam sessions are held regularly throughout the year. We recommend registering well in advance as popular sessions fill up quickly. Your Pro Canada consultant can advise on timing relative to your application.
Yes. There is no strict limit on how many times you can take the exam, though a waiting period between sittings typically applies. If your first attempt doesn't reach your target NCLC level, we can analyze your results, identify the gaps, and build a targeted preparation plan for your retake. Many candidates improve significantly on their second attempt with focused preparation.
Your free assessment is a short conversation with our CEO Isabelle to evaluate your current French level and understand your immigration timeline and target scores. Based on this, we'll recommend the most suitable program for your needs. There's no obligation to sign up, and no judgment if your French is rusty — it's simply the best starting point.
Book your free French assessment today. We'll identify your current level, map out the gap to your target NCLC scores, and recommend the right program for your timeline.
